ADC Energy’s collaboration with Seadrill continues to redefine blowout preventer (BOP) reliability through the development of the world’s first AI driven digital platform capable of scientifically assessing the Remaining Useable Life (RUL) of annular elements and BOP components using real-time equipment data.
Named Annu-Life, this jointly developed solution integrates real-time rig data from Seadrill’s fleet into advanced machine learning models, continuously refined and validated by ADC’s Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The system is enhanced with data from real-world drilling operations and well characteristics, including image classification of elastomer degradation, creating a powerful continuous learning loop. This enables the predictive analytics system to accurately detect signs of wear and predict how long they will last enabling extended BOP deployment. This provides rig teams with a data-driven foundation for safer, smarter decisions regarding the replacement of safety critical BOP components.
Currently deployed across 11 drillships, Annu-Life has received extremely positive feedback predicting true condition, with its AI-driven insights recognised as a game-changing advantage for improving maintenance planning, reducing cost and enabling risk based decisions to be made. Building on these results, Seadrill continues to support this joint AI initiative with ADC Energy to ensure ongoing collaboration and continuous development of this innovative platform.
Looking ahead, the platform is expanding the technology’s scope to include ram packer elements, another key component of the BOP system. As this joint AI initiative advances, it is poised to establish a new industry benchmark for predictive maintenance and equipment integrity across the offshore energy sector
